-The kingdom of Thailand has been an independant nation since AD 1238, amd is the only counrty in south east asia never colonised by foreign power.

-1932: became a constitutional monarchy inspired by the British Model, but with myriad of subtilities.The King appoints all judges who sit on the supreme court. The prime minister appoints the 200 senators.

- The King Bhumibol, who ascended the throne in 1946 is the longest-reigning living monarch.

-517 000 km2, 65 million inhabitants.Since 1079, government encourages family-planning program to control birth rate.Divided in 72 provinces.

-Soon Thailand will be reaching the "Dragons", namely HK, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan.14% or exports are agricultural (rice, rubber, tapioca, coconut). 40% are manufactured goods. Since 1987, tourism has become a major source of income.

-My impression: The beginning was really taugh, especially after Madrid, but patience was rewarding...Even though I hated Thailand when I was a tourist, I've learned to appreciate the real aspect of a country full of respect for its tradition when I went to work there, and with lovely people. Too bad prostitution just keeps boosting, as all over South east asia.
